(Hi-Line) The Milk River Project announced via Facebook post that Bureau of Reclamation has awarded Northwest Construction of Bozeman a 88.3-million-dollar contract to replace the St. Mary Diversion Dam.
They say this project will not only upgrade the dam but also introduce fish-friendly features in order to help the threatened Bull Trout population there.
This funding, they say, was secured through the 1 trillion-dollar Infrastructure Law which provides funding for the Milk River Project up to 100 million dollars.
The St. Mary Diversion Dam and Canal were completed in 1915 as part of the Milk River Project in north-central Montana, making this a project over a century in the making.
