In just about one month, the MSU-Northern Skylights volleyball team will kick off the 2024 season, albeit with games that won’t count for the record books. Nonetheless, head coach Jerry Wagner’s team will have not just one, but two chances to get into game simulation.
The annual alumni game will be broken up into two contests, one which starts on Aug. 2 and one that will go Aug. 9. The reasoning is, according to coach Wagner, “We have equal interest in both dates and want to make it so as many alumni as possible have the chance to reacquaint themselves with MSUN and our current team.”
The games start counting after the last week of alumni file out of the Armory Gym. The Skylights will travel down to Butte to play in the Big Sky Challenge, facing four opponents over three days all at different times of the day. After a single Saturday contest on Aug. 24 against Ottawa University-Arizona in Great Falls, Northern will make its second road trip, this time to Surprise, AZ for the OUAZ Volleyball Tournament, which closes out the month of August.
After a scrimmage at home against Medicine Hat College to the month of September, Frontier Conference play gets going the very next week at Montana Western on Sept. 13 with the Frontier-North Star Conference Challenge sandwiching between during the weekend of Oct. 11.
This 2024 postseason will be special for Skylights volleyball as they’ll host the Frontier Conference Tournament, which will be played in the Armory Gym on Nov. 15 and 16. For the full Skylights volleyball schedule, visit GoLightsGo.com.
