(Havre) The Havre Police Department says they’ll be increasing their patrols to crack down on intoxicated driving during this upcoming holiday weekend.
New Media Broadcasters spoke with Sergeant Gomke of the Havre Police Department for more information.
“So obviously with the holiday coming up we will have extra patrols through the Havre city area, and you can expect to see more officers on the street and more officers out conducting traffic stops trying to locate intoxicated drivers”
Captain Ryan Pearson of Havre PD urges the public to plan a sober ride home before they start drinking.
Montana has the highest rate of alcohol related traffic deaths in the United States with an average of just over 8 drivers involved in fatal crashes per 100,000 licensed drivers.
63% of all traffic fatalities in Montana are the result of intoxicated driving, and law enforcement reports a large increase in intoxicated driving incidents during holidays.
