The Havre Northstars played in a second consecutive elimination game on Saturday morning, taking on rivals Lewistown at the 2024 North ‘A’ District Tournament in Lethbridge. The Northstars would prevail in a (7-4) win.
Lewistown got on the board in the first inning on an RBI groundout. Just like in games of this past season, Havre battled back, striking for three runs in the bottom of the third inning, which included back-to-back RBI singles by Teegan Solomon and Connor Essert.
Another big inning for the Northstars would be in the fourth, scoring three more times on a fielder’s choice and then seeing Essert steal home before Ezra Pyle drove in Terek Shipp.
The Redbirds made a comeback in the sixth inning, crossing the plate on an error and single to make it a two-run game. High drama came later in the inning as Northstars coach Patch Wirtzberger brought in Quinn Elliot to pitch. He intentionally walked Trajan Sparks to load the bases, but Elliot pitched his way out of the high drama by striking out the side before retiring Lewistown in order to end the contest.
Tanner Delarosa picked up the win for Havre, throwing nearly six innings of ball and striking out nine Redbirds. Elliot faced four batters and got them all out either on strikeouts or fly outs.
The Northstars will player later on Saturday against the winner of Tri-County and Medicine Hat. First pitch is scheduled for around 5:15pm.
