(Little Shell Tribe) The National Park Service recently announced 3 million dollars of total aid for the return of native american remains and sacred objects to their tribes.
Locally, the Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Cree Indians of Montana received 96 thousand dollars in total aid to fund consultation and documentation which supports the repatriation process.
This funding comes as part of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, which requires museums and federal agencies to inventory and identify Nation American human remains and cultural items in their collections.
