The 112th edition of the Choteau County Fair continues with grandstand events on Friday and Saturday night. The Montana Pullers Association will be back to Fort Benton for the second time this summer to put on the truck and tractor pulls for this year’s fair. New Media Broadcasters spoke with Megan Werner, one of the owners of the Pullers Association to ask about the relationship her company has with Choteau County and what makes going to the fair every year so special.
“We have done the last three years with the Choteau County Fair,” Werner said. “We’ve attended probably the last 10 years, but as far as actually running the event, we’ve been in conjunction with them for the last three years.”
“We have a great relationship with the fair board and the members there,” Werner continued. “We continue to have a great working relationship with them.”
This year’s fair will feature two nights of competition in which both truck and tractor pullers will have the chance to receive the high score on Friday night, the high score on Saturday night, and the overall high score. The payout will total $30,000 for the featured players among seven different classes. Werner shared a few more details about what grandstand viewers can expect.
“With the spectators in the stands, they’ll get to see a little bit of a grudge match,” Werner said. “A lot of these guys have been competing with us throughout the summer at our other events, too. This is kind of a final tally for the season.”
“(At the Choteau County Fair) usually, we have a good semi showing, too, which we don’t see at a lot of our events,” Werner continued. “We usually see anywhere from five to 15 semis show up and they’re usually local guys. Everyone loves a local.”
One last wrinkle in all of this is that there is plenty of room to have fans come out and try the truck and tractor pulls for themselves. Werner gave some encouraging words for those who want to take part in the festivities as opposed to watching from the grandstands.
“Everyone is welcome to come out and try,” Werner said. “This is not just for our seasoned veterans. We love a rookie. Everybody is encouraged to come out and try it once.”
“We don’t ever turn anybody away,” Werner continued. “You can pull just about anything you have. I myself and my husband have both pulled our Jeep Grand Cherokee in the past.”
“Our daily drivers have been in these pulls with us as well and a lot of our friends pull their daily drivers as well,” Werner said. “We love to have the locals come out and give it a shot.”
The Choteau County Fair truck and tractor pulls will be taking place on Friday night and Saturday night. Both shows begin at 7pm. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for kids with ages five and under getting in for free.
