Two Havre High programs are going to be showcased on Saturday for anyone looking to view the Blue Ponies with all-day action. The girls’ volleyball teams and the football team will each scrimmage against one another in the annual “Blue/White Scrimmage”. The head coaches for both programs spoke with New Media Broadcasters before their tune-ups.
For volleyball coach Cassie Krueger, this exhibition gives her and her coaching staff the ability to look at the roster from the bottom to the top across three different teams.
“I think that it would be about the expectations that we have,” Krueger said. “It’s also a good time to evaluate our teams and see where they’re at. Obviously, every team will be at different levels.”
“I have a very good feeling about each of our teams, ‘C’ squad up through varsity and them having a very good foundation going into the season,” Krueger continued.
Havre football coach Jake Eldridge will view his team’s outing as a chance to see what missing pieces will need to be filled for this upcoming season. He mentioned how playing in front of a crowd will boost the team’s efforts after practicing against one another in front of no one for the last few months.
“First and foremost, it’s just a great opportunity for the kids to get out there and compete in a game-like environment,” Eldridge said. “Number two, seeing where they’re at and seeing how much they’ve learned and retained here in camp.”
“Really, what I’m most excited about is seeing who we have and come in and help replace some of the guys that we’ve lost through graduation and how they are going to fill into those roles,” Eldridge continued. “Not just necessarily who just the starters are and things like that, but what kind of depth can we develop and do we have in all the different positions.”
Blue Pony volleyball will be up first, displaying each player who made the ‘C’ squad, JV, and varsity teams with play beginning around 11am from the Blue Pony Corral on Saturday. Havre football will get going with its “Blue/White Scrimmage” later that night at 7pm from Blue Pony Stadium.
