The Havre golf teams enjoyed three full days out at golf courses last week with notable first-place finishes at their own tournament. New Media Broadcasters got the chance to talk with head coach Dennis Murphy and he said he was satisfied with how both the boys’ and girls’ played from overcoming a storm in Great Falls to finishing out the week in Shelby with those wins in between.
“Our overall play, (I was) very pleased for this time year,” Murphy said. “The boys’ shot better as a group each day, which was exciting.”
“Then on the girls’ side, a little bit more inexperience in play, so a little more up and down there,” Murphy continued.
Havre golf does not have any competitions this week. Murphy ended up giving critiques to his teams as they get back into the swing of things for practice and reflected on how last week’s downsides can be improved upon before going back on the road next week.
“(We’ve taken) a look at the things we didn’t do very well,” Murphy said. “One of them was we didn’t put very well on Friday at Shelby, so there was a big emphasis in practice is working on putting.”
“One of the things that I saw out on the course was that our approach shots to the green, we weren’t putting ourselves in a very good position for putting,” Murphy continued. “We’re going to concentrate on that the rest of this week and try to get ready for our meets next week.”
Havre golf will be right back on the course following Labor Day. The team play at Harlowton on Tue, Sep. 3 and have also picked up a tournament in Lewistown on Fri, Sep. 6.
