The MSU-Northern Skylights volleyball team returned home after a road trip to Arizona, which featured three consecutive losses to high-level competition at the Ottawa University-Arizona (OUAZ) tournament. New Media Broadcasters spoke with head coach Jerry Wagner and he drew the conclusion that the opponents his team faced beat them at their own game.
“They did a couple of things that I pride our team on having,” Wagner said. “They served extremely tough, very noticeable in our last match against Arizona Christian. They passed the ball well and they won some long rallies.”
“We’re a tough team to beat because we don’t let a lot of stuff hit the ground, but we kind of got beat at our own game,” Wagner continued. “It’s not very gratifying.”
The Skylights will look to get back on track, albeit while hosting a scrimmage against Medicine Hat College. Wagner said what the components of this match in the schedule will do for the team, especially because it is the annual “Kids Day” game where hundreds of little ones will pack the Armory Gym in the afternoon.
“We have a good relationship with Medicine Hat College,” Wagner said. “It’s nice of them to come down here and play mid-week.”
“The ‘Kids Day’ is fun. Please come out if you can,” Wagner continued. “We may not have as many kids screaming as I was hoping, but we’re still playing.”
“If you have a child, please bring them to the match,” Wagner said.
Skylights volleyball will host Medicine Hat College inside the Armory Gym on Thursday at noon. The showcase is free to attend and will add an emphasis with the “Kids Day” theme
