The Havre golf teams were on the road last week with mixed results in Harlowton and Lewistown. New Media Broadcasters got an explanation from head coach Dennis Murphy in regards to what those scores and standings meant to him.
“I’m pleased with how well we played in Lewistown,” Murphy said. “The greens there are very difficult and the putting often times causes us to have high scores.”
“We actually did a really nice job, so that was a great thing finishing the week and preparing for our next week,” Murphy continued.
The Pony golfers will have two more road tests with courses that are both uniquely different. Murphy said what is special about playing at both Glendive and Sidney.
“Glendive is a little nine-hole course (that is) challenging,” Murphy said. “They’ve got some trees that are in there that make the course tight. Very similar to our (home course at) Prairie Farms.”
“Sidney course is an 18-hole course,” Murphy continued. “Much longer. A lot of uphill. You have to play uphill at that course.”
“A little different of challenges that we’ll be facing each day,” Murphy said.
There is one underlying goal of Murphy’s for this weekend: seek out the competition and go toe-to-toe with the Eastern ‘A’ golf programs.
“Well first of all, going into these two meets is the next progression in our season,” Murphy said. “We’re going to get a chance to see all the Eastern ‘A’ teams with the exception of East Helena.”
“So, that’s the postseason as we move on,” Murphy continued. “But the biggest thing for me going into this weekend is we get an opportunity to play against the Eastern ‘A’ schools and see where we stack up.”
For Blue Pony golf, the Dawson County Invite and Sidney Invite will take place on Thursday and Friday, respectively starting at 10am.
