With a little over a week now to think about the latest MSU-Northern rodeo results, New Media Broadcasters asked head coach Doug Kallenberger how he wanted to highlight the team members that did well to add to an already impressive start to the season, especially considering the Lights and Skylights were handed a bad hand when the Dawson Community College Rodeo initially started.
“It was a tribute to the kids preparing themselves and making sure their horses were ready,” Kallenberger said. “(They reacted) to the circumstances that were thrown at them.”
“I liked (the rodeo) because we didn’t draw the best, but they capitalized (by) making the best run they possibly could’ve,” Kallenberger continued. “It worked well.”
Kallenberger said the goals are still the same and that his team has been working hard to make sure that the momentum is still kept, but at a level in which the squads can remain humble.
“I think nothing (has changed),” Kallenberger said. “Our preparation was good.”
“We’ve always told the kids, ‘Let’s not let the highs get too high (and) the lows get too low. Prepare like you’re at the bottom again, trying to work your way to the top,'” Kallenberger continued. “We talk about, ‘Good job. Hey, let’s prepare and now we’re at the bottom again working our way to the top.’ None of that will change.”
Kallenberger’s rodeo Lights and Skylights will be back at it later this week for the Montana Western Rodeo down in Dillon.
