The MSU-Northern Lights dropped another football game, this time to No. 12 College of Idaho, (28-7) on Saturday afternoon. Northern showed signs of life on defense, holding the No. 1 ranked Yotes offense well below season averages in points while forcing two fumbles and recovering one. However, the Lights were unable to force the issue down the field on offense, whereas the Yotes did a good job moving the ball, which led to scoring drives.
The Lights held the lead after the first drive as quarterback Zach Brooks found Colter Wolstad for a 40-yard touchdown at the 8:43 mark of the opening quarter. However, Northern gave up Yotes touchdowns on three of the final four drives of the first half to give the visitors a (21-7) edge at the break.
It was a stalemate throughout the third quarter until reigning Frontier Conference Player of the Week Andy Peters threw a 57-yard touchdown pass to John Kreps to give COI a three-touchdown lead. From there, the Yotes were able to keep the Lights off the field with good coverage from the secondary and sacks.
Peters finished the day with 349 of the 466 yards of total offense with two touchdowns. Brooks went 10-for-20 for 99 yards and one passing touchdown.
Northern falls to (0-6, 0-4 in conference) this season, while College of Idaho is now (6-2, 4-2 in conference). The Lights will be back on the road to take on Southern Oregon next Saturday.
