The Havre volleyball Lady Ponies wrapped up an eventful weekend in Butte, playing in the annual “Blocktoberfest” tournament. While the Ponies didn’t achieve their ultimate goals, head coach Cassie Krueger told New Media Broadcasters that one of the aspects of their game improved as the tournament went along, but said another aspect will need to be worked on for the foreseeable future with the regular season winding down.
“We had a lot of good moments along with some moments that left a lot to be desired,” Krueger said. “Our defense in particular, I was very happy with.”
“It seemed to be getting more consistent,” Krueger continued. “We just need to work on our offense a little bit more in the upcoming weeks before we hit postseason.”
“I’m really looking forward to going into the last part of our season (and) the last few weeks of it,” Krueger said.
It’s back to the grind of an Eastern ‘A’ volleyball schedule. The advantage of playing so many games last week is that the team will have three more matches on the slate this week, capped off by a back-end match with Sidney, where four Blue Pony’s will be honored for senior night. Coach Krueger highlighted the leaders who have helped Havre volleyball become what it is and had heartwarming things to say about their individual achievements.
“Addie Olson, my libero, she has been a phenomenal player to work with,” Krueger said. “(She has) just a great (and) positive attitude all the time.”
“Emily Leeds, she just dug down really deep this season,” Krueger continued. “She’s really stepped into her role as team captain. I’m very proud of how she’s played this year.”
“Macee May, she also has dug down really deep (and) become a very valuable right side for us this year offensively and defensively,” Krueger said. “Kylee Tyler has been an amazing setter for us. She just has been such a well-rounded player.”
“I’m going to be very sad to lose my seniors,” Krueger said. “I couldn’t be (prouder) of them.”
Havre has matches this week with Browning on Tuesday at 7:30pm, followed by a road trip to Malta on Thursday at 7pm and then closing out the week for senior night at home against Sidney with a 4:30pm varsity start on Saturday.
