After playing against Laurel on Oct. 11 and coming from behind to win, the tides turned in the state semifinals on Saturday afternoon as the Havre football team surrendered the lead late and had the season come to an end by the Locomotives, (35-28).
Griffin Terry started the game strong for the Blue Ponies, throwing a couple of touchdown passes to give the visitors a (12-0) lead. Laurel got on the board with a touchdown run of their own, but Tate Nelson answered right back with a scamper into the end zone from four yards out and Pierce Caplette was the benefactor of a two-point conversion to make it (20-7).
The Locos got back into it with a couple of touchdowns, but Terry used his legs to put Havre back in front, (28-21) later in the second half. That’s when Laurel running back Curtis Fox stole the show. He accounted for two key second half rushing scores, including the go-ahead 20-yard touchdown to break a (28-28) tie that gave the Locomotives the final say in matters.
Havre finished with an (8-4) overall record in 2024, while Laurel is going to its first state title game in three seasons and will face longtime rival Billings Central Catholic on Saturday.
