Chinook girls’ basketball has an unblemished record through the early parts of the season. New Media Broadcasters caught up with head coach Mike Seymour to ask about the defensive intensity on the floor and how it pertained to closing out the time before the break.
“I was really happy with the last couple of games that we played against Fort Benton and Shelby before the break,” Seymour said. “I felt like the girls’ executed our game plan defensively of how we wanted to guard each team.”
“I’ve just been very pleased with their effort and energy on the defensive end of the floor,” Seymour continued.
The 2025 slate begins with conference matchups: Rocky Boy on the road and then back home to host Choteau. Seymour stated that the evolution of his team begins with practice. Translating the learning experiences to the floor for this weekend’s games will be paramount, according to him.
“I’d like to think that our practices are pretty competitive,” Seymour said. “We get after each other in practice, trying to improve each other each and every day.”
“(We) make sure we let each other know that we’re not here to try and show you up or anything, but we’re trying to get better,” Seymour continued. “In turn, hopefully our bench and our JV team gets better as well.”
“Just playing competitive basketball is going to be a good factor for us,” Seymour said.
The Lady Beeters close out doubleheaders on Friday in Rocky Boy around 7:30pm and Saturday around 5:30pm against Choteau at home. Noah Friedman will be on the call for Friday’s game, while Kyle Leeds broadcasts Saturday. Both contests will be on KRYK-101.3FM and HiLineToday.com.
