Havre boys’ basketball has been in neutral ever since the final game of 2024. The Blue Ponies have not been on court since Dec. 21 at the Lockwood tournament. Head coach Walynn Burgess took New Media Broadcasters through the events of having the Laurel game from last week postponed and how ready his team is to get back out on court.
“It’s a weird situation when you’re midseason, you’ve already played six games, and then you get a three-week break,” Burgess said. “We found out Friday about afternoon that we couldn’t play and so we just decided to have a little competition day on that Friday.”
“When we turn back around, this week has just been getting ready for what we have ahead of us,” Burgess continued. “It stinks not having games for three weeks. It’s good for our legs to get back.”
“I think the boys are ready to go beat up on somebody else,” Burgess said. “I know I am.”
The wait will be over this weekend with the Havre boys’ hosting back-to-back games at the Corral. Burgess said how ready his kids are to play both Hardin and Browning and what it will mean to have the home crowd behind them for the first time in over three weeks.
“We know coming in what both teams bring. They both love to play very fast, play up-and-down,” Burgess said. “They like to get a lot of (3-pointers) up.”
“I think the boys are ready to go for it. We’ve been talking about them all week, preparing ourselves to get ready,” Burgess continued. “Now, it’s just time to get the ball out on the floor and let’s go play, especially in front of our home crowd.”
“It’ll be nice to see the Havre Blue Pony fans cheering for us,” Burgess said. “I think it’ll give us a different type of energy that we’ve been wanting.”
Havre will play against Hardin in the back end of the doubleheader on Friday night with tip-off scheduled for around 5:30pm. The Browning game will be part of a split in which there will be just one game at the Corral on Saturday afternoon around 4pm. Both games will be on KOJM-610AM, 98.3FM, and HiLineToday.com with Kyle Leeds on the call Friday night and Isreal Hale behind the mic on Saturday.
