The Chinook wrestling program is coming off of an abbreviated week that saw the boys’ only compete once at their senior mixer, while the girls’ got placers at the 2025 Golden Eagle Girls Invitational. New Media Broadcasters talked with a very proud head coach in Ben Stroh, who shouted out two of his female wrestlers, Grace Buck and Bailey Billmayer.
“We’ve known it with the three girls (including third place finisher Lynley Conrad): they are rock solid,” Stroh said. “(First placer finisher at 105 pounds) Grace (Buck), no big surprise there. She’s just continuing her winning ways.”
“(Second place finisher at 120 pounds) Bailey (Billmayer) had a really nice, big weekend,” Stroh continued. “(She knocked) off the No. 3 girl in the state in the semi(finals).”
“I hope she carries this through coming back to the end of the year,” Stroh said.
The Sugarbeeter wrestlers will face off against competition in Big Sandy for a mixer and then head to the Malta Invite this weekend. Stroh broke down how this week is looking already for his crew.
“I’m excited for this weekend coming up,” Stroh said. “Obviously, (it’s) our last weekend before Divisionals and that’s when things really matter. I want them to keep (it) going.”
“You’re always looking for that perfect time to peak and we don’t obviously want that at home or at the Malta tournament,” Stroh continued. “We want that at Divisionals and State. But you’ve got to start somewhere.”
“If we can get (the wrestlers) up and how they’re feeling about themselves, I think we’ll be sitting pretty good at Divisionals,” Stroh said. “The kids will have an opportunity at State to make some upsets and really get ourselves on that podium.”
The Big Sandy Mixer is on Thursday, followed by the Malta Invite, which will be a mixer on Friday with the tournament on Saturday.
