(Havre) Senate Bill 90 was heard last week, and some amendments are being made to the legislation since then after a large number of reactions from the public, including some folks near home.
Executive Director of the Havre Chamber of Commerce Shelli Sayers was one such person who gave testimony.
“The Montana State Senate had a Local Government Committee hearing for SB90 on January 20th, and that included testimony from over 40 people, myself included, who voiced strong opposition to this bill. Tourism is a multibillion-dollar industry in Montana and many of our area communities rely on travelers passing through for economic stability.”
This bill, if passed as originally written, would reappropriate money set aside to further the tourism appeal of rural Montana communities. While the money that Havre has been promised would likely not be affected by this legislation, communities that wanted to apply for tourism funding in the future might not be able if the bill were to pass.
