HFD fights fire on 5th Ave.

(Havre) Havre Fire Department says that a residential fire on 5th Avenue started at 7:30 Wednesday morning because of a hair dryer on fire.

After arriving, the crews attacked the fire through the basement window, where a water line had broken due to the fire. Havre Public Works was able to turn off the water service from the street valve, which minimized water damage to the residence.

The house fire was contained to a bedroom and closet in the basement, and while heat did char areas of the first floor, no flames extended to that level of the home.

No human injuries were reported. The families dog made it out of the home safely, but the family lost their cat in the fire.
