DOT prioritizing safety of rural roads with recent projects.

(Phillips County) As previously reported by New Media Broadcasters, some roads in the Phillips County area are undergoing reconstruction projects to allow for more safety features.

New Media Broadcasters spoke with Joy Fleming, Design Project Manager with the Montana Department of Transportation, who says that rural roadway safety has been a recent priority of the agency.

“MDT’s motto, vision statement, Vision Zero, which means zero deaths, injuries, fatalities on Montana roads every year. So, that’s always our goal, and so safety is always our number one priority”

Fleming says that projects near Zortman could take up to two constructions seasons, but that the project in Malta is expected to take only one based on comparable projects MDOT has done in the past.
