(NWS) The National Weather Service in Great Falls is examining the possibility of ground blizzard conditions as early as Thursday in the region.
New Media Broadcasters spoke with NWS Great Falls Meteorologist Ray Greely.
“A ground blizzard, there does not need to be snow falling for a ground blizzard. Technically the definition of a blizzard in general is a few things that come together. One is a quarter mile of visibility or less for three hours or more. Winds gusting generally in the 30 to 35 mile per hour range”
Greely also says that an additional place of concern is the Highway 87 corridor due to the level of wind that area tends to receive, but that area is also at less risk currently for ground blizzard conditions.
