Following a state tournament result that came up just short of the ultimate goal, the Havre softball team will return to action for the 2025 season. New Media Broadcasters caught up with head coach Tony Vigliotti, who said that the weather for this time of year doesn’t normally account for practice time on the field, but that the mild conditions have been helping lead up to the season opener.
“Being outside has been a big help,” Vigliotti said. “In my eight years, I don’t know that we’ve ever been outside from the beginning. We’ve been outside every day.”
“There were a couple of days that were a little chilly, but I told the girls, ‘I’d rather be outside for an hour than inside for (a) couple of hours,'” Vigliotti continued.
“It’s been a great spring so far practice-wise,” Vigliotti said. “Hopefully, the weather stays the way it has been.”
Coach Vig said what kind of team he will have for this coming campaign.
“We’ve got a pretty good, experienced group coming back,” Vigliotti said. “We lost a center fielder (in Jersi Morse). Of course, we lost Elle Verploegen, who manned the circle for the last three years.”
“(Pitcher) Rachel Jette has put in her time and she’s worked hard and it’s her turn now,” Vigliotti continued. “We feel good about where we are there.”
“We have to fill in maybe one or two spots, but (I’m) pretty excited,” Vigliotti said. “We have an experienced group back (with) a lot of seniors. We’re going to have six seniors.”
Havre hosts East Helena at Sixth Avenue Memorial Field on Friday, followed by a trip to Miles City on Saturday. New Media Broadcasters will have those results once the games go final.
