For the first time in years, the Frontier Conference basketball tournament will not be taking place at the Four Seasons Arena in Great Falls. News broke recently that the postseason will be in Butte for the next two seasons. NBC Montana first had the story after civic leaders in the “Mining City” confirmed the changes at a board meeting last week.
With the expansion to 12 teams starting in the 2025-26 school year that included schools from the Dakotas and Nebraska, there was talk from that point about where the postseason games would be played. With Billings as a possible option for a middle point between the new schools coming in and the original six programs that made up the Frontier Conference, the decision was made on Butte and its 6,000-plus seat Civic Center. Factors in the decision could also be that that arena will be getting a new court and a new sound system by the time the Frontier Conference tournament shows up.
As part of the new expansion, eight men’s and eight women’s programs will qualify through the process of playing the new schedule, which should release sometime this summer. The 2026 Frontier Conference basketball tournaments are scheduled to be played from February 27-March 2 at the Butte Civic Center as well as dates to be announced for the 2026-27 season.
