Libby asbestos clinic closes.

(Libby) On May 7, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office closed the Center for Asbestos Related Disease in Libby, a town of about 3,000 people near a former vermiculite mine that produced asbestos dust for decades.

The clinic was shuttered after a court order to seize the clinic’s assets to pay off a judgment to the BNSF Railway company, where the clinic was found to have filed 337 false diagnoses.

The clinic has been at the forefront of efforts to help people sickened by asbestos, and its executive director said it “will fight to reopen as soon as possible.”
