(USDA) The USDA ended it’s most recent spring wheat crop monitoring period on May 25th. USDA meteorologist Brady Rippey has more information.
“The spring wheat condition report of the season showing perhaps a few problems in a couple of production areas. The national crop is 45% good to excellent, 18% very poor to poor. We do not have a comparison to last week or last year but individually looking at the states, our biggest trouble spots early this year were North Dakota coming in at 26% very poor to poor and Montana at 18%” Rippey Said.
The crop began this year known as a “troubled crop”, and while it’s made some strides, many experts are still weary of its overall progress through the growing season. Montana experienced a much drier than average winter this year, and some point to that conundrum combined with the reduced irrigation water due to the ongoing St. Mary’s Siphon project as a potential factors for decreased output for this year’s Montana wheat crop.
