HELENA, Mont. — Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen is leading a 28-state coalition challenging Maine’s 72-hour waiting period for firearm purchases.
In a brief filed with the U.S. Court of Appeals, Knudsen argues the law violates the Second Amendment and lacks historical precedent, as required by the Supreme Court’s Bruen decision.
The coalition supports a lower court ruling halting the law, calling Maine’s reasoning flawed and its evidence insufficient.
States joining Montana include Texas, Florida, and Wyoming.
