Breaking Down Realignment Part 1

(NMB) – The Frontier conference has undergone massive realignment bringing big changes to sports like Football, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, and Volleyball. This marks the first of a two-week daily series breaking down Frontier Conference realignment with Montana Sate University-Northern’s Director of Athletics Christian Oberquell.

In the past The Frontier Conference has had 6 members and is adding 6 new schools starting in the 2025 season. The cause for such a massive change came for a number of reasons that are outside of the frontier conference. MSU-Northern athletic director Christian Oberquell explains a few of the reasons for the change.

“It’s been a long process and in the NAIA you have to have 6 teams to have a conference, and we just had six Montana Schools so were just a Montana conference.” said Oberquell. ” There was movement over in the NorthStar Conference and there are some teams that jumped to Division II and so there were teams that were left without homes. We really pushed with our membership committee to go over and meet with our presidents and so we have six new schools.”

As the frontier conference expands, opportunity does as well. Tune in tomorrow to hear Oberquell talks about what teams have joined the conference and what they bring. You can listen to the full interview with Lights athletic director on Hi line today dot com.
