(NMB) – The Havre Northstars are currently 27-10-1 on the year and 18-2 in North district play to hold first place in the district standings.
On July third, Havre took down the Macleod Royals in both games with a dominant start to finish 8-3 victory in game one fueled by Tanner DeLarosa’s 12 strike out performance. The Northstars then claimed a 13-7 victory in game two after trailing 7-3 to start the fourth inning. With those wins the Northstars are 2-0 in the midst of a 10 game home stand with a double header against five conference opponents. NMB spoke with Northstar head coach Ryan Divish on his takeaways from a dominant performance by Tanner DeLarosa in game one and the game two comeback.
“He went on the attack, in terms of attacking hitters. When he gets to two strikes on guys, he knows how to finish them off.” Divish said. “So we have been that to him and to all of our pitchers, is it’s a race to get to two strikes so you can do other stuff to get them out, and he really attacked hitters that day.”
The Northstars host The Medicine Hat nights on Tuesday July 8th at 2P.M. Divish explained how his team can win these games at the plate by being patient and not swing on the first pitch.
“When they are patient and they see a lot of pitches at bat usually they are the most successful, instead of swinging at the first pitch.” Explained Divish, “So that has been an emphasis, you know these kids are starting to understand that if they have the good energy and good enthusiasm that carries them, when maybe they aren’t executing as well as they should.”
After the double header against Medicine Hat this afternoon the NorthStars turn their attention to back-to-back double headers against the Lethbridge Lakers on Saturday July 12th and the Vaxhall Spurs on Sunday the 13th .
