Be Aware of School Busses

(Helena) – School is back in session for K-12 students across the state. Drivers need to be aware of busses in their communities for safety reasons. Sergeant John Metcalfe of the Montana Highway Patrol provides statistics about School Bus safety violations across the state.

“So, from 2023 to 2024 the Highway Patrol investigated one hundred and forty-four school bus violations but that’s one hundred forty-four time we actually found a person and were able to follow up with it. So, I’m sure the number of actual people who were not driving safely around school busses is even higher.”

If you see a school bus safety violation, report the incident to local law enforcement, Sgt. Metcalfe says if you provide a license plate number with your violation report it helps with the law enforcement investigation.
