Havre, MT – Northern Lights football is off to a 1-4 start entering their bye week.
After starting off 0-4 on the year head coach of the Lights Jerome Souers said they had been working hard and getting better but they needed to have fun because football is too hard of a game to not to have any fun.
Having fun was one of coach Souers’ keys to claiming a victory over Eastern Oregon last Saturday. Northern came away with a 23-7 victory on the backs of a strong defensive performance. In his post-game comments coach Souers came away saying his team had fun.
“We had fun, and it was fun to win. A lot of the little things that are nuanced in winning consistently we don’t have yet. the penalties the critical situations the fourth down conversions we gave on penalty and those things will kill you when you’re playing upper-level football” Souers said.
Souers continued on his thoughts heading into the bye week. “So we got a lot to clean up. I’m thankful we have a week to heal up, we have a week to rest and prepare two-weeks out and it was an opportunity for us to get better.”
After the bye week Northern will host No. 5 and currently unbeaten Montana Tech on Saturday, October 11, from noon at Tilleman field. Don’t forget that you can listen to MSU-Northern lights football on KPQX.
