Havre, Mt – After Saturday Lights football has been forced to play three different quarterbacks due to an injury. Saturday it was O’Neal going out and true Freshman Ethan Maroni stepping up.
The Lights started the season with Ashton Platt who has not played since going out in game number two at Montana Western. Up until Friday it was Sophomore QB Kendall O’Neal running the Lights Offense, but with an injury at the end of the first quarter, Maroni had to take the reins.
Lights offensive coordinator Dave Sandau said he is excited for Maroni’s future in the program despite the slow start and freshman mistakes.
“Just jump start him. We got get rolling tomorrow and just get him up to speed with what we’re doing and simplify it a little bit for him, but I mean he’s got some tools that are pretty exciting, and I think he can get it done.” Sandau said.
Coach Sandau later stat that O’Neal just tweaked his ankle but his status for Saturday on the road at Dickinson State is unknown.
Maroni threw for 191 yards 2 touchdowns, rush for 73 yards for a net of 39 and committed zero turnovers.
