Havre, MT – Montana State University-Northern football is still rebuilding and, on the defense, they trust senior leadership to guide the way.
Lights defensive coordinator Dylan Wampler discussed how the teams current roster influenced their approach to the 2026 recruiting cycle.
“For the first time in a long time from when I played and went to school here and now coached, we have a very older group on the defensive side of the ball. A lot of our guys are going to be juniors and seniors. In previous years we’ve always tried to find transfers and older guys, but this year we tried to stay local in the state of Montana.” Coach Wampler said.
“We’re brining a true freshman class that we haven’t had in a long time. We hit every single position group and got a freshman for each one so we can start building up now that we have older guys that know how to lead the way.” coach Wampler Concluded.
The Lights are looking to improve upon last year’s 1-10 overall record.
