Hill County has had a local option vehicle tax for many years. The County Commission is charged with deciding where the funds should be allocated each year. Recently they made this decision for Fiscal Year 2027. Hill County Commission Chairman Jake Strissel explains where the money is being allocated this year.
“It’s a 0.5% vehicle tax increase and what that means is we take that 0.5% and we allocate that to different funds throughout the county. This year we’re going to put 75% of that tax into the general funds to help fund different departments, and 25% of that will go towards our health insurance fund.”
The Hill County Commission meets every Thursday at 2pm inside the commissioner’s office at the Hill County Courthouse.
