Chester Man Pleads Guilty to Child Sex Abuse Material

A Chester man will spend six years in federal prison after authorities found child sexual abuse material on his phone while he was entering Montana from Canada. Federal prosecutors say 34-year-old Brandon Wayne Roos was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Missoula. Roos pleaded guilty in March to receiving child pornography.

According to court records, Roos arrived at the Sweetgrass Port of Entry on September 24th, 2023. Border Patrol agents had received a tip that he may be carrying illegal material and searched his phone during the border inspection. Investigators say they found more than 150 images and nearly 50 videos containing child sexual abuse material. Authorities say Roos admitted purchasing and downloading the files. That admission led to a search warrant for his home and computer, where agents found additional illegal images and videos.

Along with the six-year prison sentence, Roos was ordered to serve five years of supervised release following his incarceration.
