Skylights Battle Back vs. Mayville State

Havre, MT – Montana State University-Northern Skylights Volleyball battled back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Mayville State University in five sets at home tonight, winning by scores of 25-20, 20-25, 23-25, 25-20 and 15-11.

The Skylights finished the night with 59 kills on 224 attacks, hitting .179 as a team. Macy Uffelman led MSUN offensively with 16 kills on 64 attacks, while Kendall Scheffelmear added 11 kills on 22 attacks and hit an impressive .409. Caleigh Case also recorded 11 kills on 36 attacks, while Addison Falls Down finished with 10 kills on 37 attacks.

Emily Bird paced the Skylights with 35 assists and added 18 digs and two service aces. Falls Down also delivered a strong all-around performance with 21 assists, 15 digs and a service ace.

Defensively, Kambria Maloy led the Skylights with 35 digs, while Uffelman, Josie Hasler and Bird each made significant contributions with 20, 20 and 18 digs, respectively. Falls Down added 15 digs as MSUN finished with 116 digs as a team.

At the net, Case turned in a standout blocking performance with four solo blocks and three block assists. Scheffelmear added two block assists, while Holly Newman contributed two block assists. Hasler and Uffelman each added a block assist as the Skylights finished with 14 total blocks.

MSUN came out strong in the opening set, taking a 25-20 victory, but Mayville State responded by winning the next two sets, 25-20 and 25-23, to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

Facing elimination, the Skylights answered in the fourth set with a 25-20 victory to force a decisive fifth set. MSUN continued to battle in the final frame, closing out the match with a 15-11 victory to complete the comeback and secure the five-set win at home.

The Skylights will look to carry the momentum from tonight’s hard-fought comeback into their upcoming matches as they continue their season.
