(Glasgow) – On Tuesday night, October 20, 2026, at approximately 10:20 p.m., BNSF employees notified dispatch that they witnessed someone shoot at the locomotive they were operating.
The train was stationary near the intersection of Tampico Road and North Tampico Road when a four-door pickup truck with overhead lighting stopped on Tampico Road and fired a shot at them. The train crew described seeing the pickup illuminate them with a spotlight, after which they observed a muzzle flash and smoke. The pickup then turned around and departed the area.
Officers responded, and after an assessment of the area, a location was identified where the pickup had stopped on Tampico Road. One shell casing was found. Additional evidence was collected and will be further processed at the Montana Crime Lab.
Two individuals have voluntarily contacted dispatch, identified themselves as present during the incident, and cooperated fully with authorities. Both stated their actions were not malicious or criminal in nature. The investigation is being conducted jointly by BNSF Police and the Valley County Sheriff’s Office, and all facts are being assessed before any conclusions are drawn.
