BIG SANDY, Mont. (NMB) – The Chouteau County Health Department has confirmed one case of whooping cough in the county. Public Health Nurse Angel Johnson says they believe this to be an isolated case and the family involved has been treated and are taking precautions.
The Blaine County Health Department has also confirmed cases of whooping cough, or pertussis, in their county. A Facebook post says that they are working to identify and treat cases based on recommendations from the CDC and the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services.
As of Friday morning, there are no reported cases of pertussis in Hill County.
Pertussis is a highly contagious respiratory disease that is spread through the air by coughing or sneezing. It poses a significant health risk for infants and young children and can be fatal. The most effective way to prevent pertussis is through vaccination, which are available for people over the age of six weeks.
