A new bill may be coming soon regarding Montana cooperatives. The bill would specifically target the word cooperative, and address who is allowed to use the word in their business name. Tracy Mcintyre the Administrator for the Montana Council of Co-ops explains more.
“I’m working with a representative right now for the Council of Cooperatives to do a bill that says that you can’t use the word co-op unless you’re actually a co-op. So just doing some protection because people like the word right now, and there is a lot of education that needs to go around it. That’s one of the things that our board has tasked us with is to not only educate about how the cooperative model can be used to address community and economic needs but how our existing co-ops impact the local communities and what are some threats and what are some opportunities for your existing co-ops as well.” -Tracy Mcintyre
