(Helena)— The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) announced Thursday that 14 organizations throughout Montana will receive 2026 Community Challenge grants. The grants are part of AARP’s $8.3 million commitment to fund 750 quick-action projects aimed at making communities more livable for people of all ages, with a focus on the needs of older adults.
Community Challenge Grants have been awarded to three entitles in the New Media Broadcasters listening area. Havre’s Bear Paw Development Corporation has been awarded $15,000 to commission public art installations downtown to enhance shared spaces and highlight local cultural history. Wasay Wakpa Wachi in lodgepole has been awarded $15,000 to develop a walking path with benches and signage around a Powwow site to support physical activity and cultural connection for tribal elders. The Golden Age Center in Fort Benton has been awarded $5,000, to Install a permanent awning and exterior lighting at a community center to improve safety, comfort, and usability during daytime and evening activities.
