(Havre) – With snow on the ground outside and temperatures dropping New Media Broadcasters sat down with Marc Kloker the region six communication education program manager for Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks to talk about how hunters can stay safe in the cold.
“So, any time you get out in the field to hunt you got to make sure you know what the weather’s doing and that your prepared to deal with it. With current weather like we have now which is snowy and cold folks that are going to be venturing out should be very, very cognizant of dressing in layers try to wear waterproof clothing, if possible, a good blend of wool, waterproof boots. Definitely have a kind of a basic survival kit matches, lighters, something to start a fire with, head lamp, hand warmers, simple first aid kit very simple things you need to stay warm out there. Also, in your vehicle make sure you have plenty of equipment in there to get yourself out of a snowbank or maybe perhaps get someone else out. Just be very cognizant of realizing that, you know, if you get stuck out in the weather like this you can succumb to the elements fairly quickly without good shelter.”
