HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Although it won’t be quite the same as in the past, the Havre Community Christmas Dinner will take place next Friday.
Due to COVID-19, there won’t be sit down dinners. Instead, from 11 AM-1 PM, anyone that wants to pick-up a free turkey dinner can enter the Eagles Club through the west door. Masks and social distancing are required.
Eagles Club Manager Tom Farnham says it is vital for this community dinner to continue during these challenging times.
“Mainly because it’s just been a bad year. We have a lot of shut-ins, we have a lot of people in quarantine that can’t even go out to get a dinner, we’ve got a lot of elderly people that are scared to come out because of the COVID. And we have a lot of people just down on their luck and a lot of people are short of funds. So we felt it has to happen to keep our community cheerful and happy on Christmas.”
There will not be dessert served this year.
For take outs and deliveries to shut-ins, please call the County Commissioners at 400-2327 by December 24th at 3 PM.
They are also looking for a few more people to volunteer to help out. Those interested can call 265-9551.
“If you want to help with take-outs, be at (the Eagles Club) at around 10:30 AM. We’ll give them a list of places to go, and then we’ll need a few in the food line. We are keeping our kitchen help down to minimal (numbers) too, just so we don’t have a gathering of people.”
Although the meal is free of charge, free will donations will be accepted.
