Bear Paw Marathon Less than Three Weeks Away

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The inaugural Bear Paw Marathon on June 5this less than three weeks away and preparations for the event are reaching the final stretch.

Havre Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Julea Robbins says that 250 runners have signed up for a race, with 30 people set to compete in the full marathon and 100 in the half marathon. She adds that plenty of volunteers have stepped up.

“We have pretty much maxed out on our volunteers. If anyone still wants to volunteer, they are more than welcome to come. They can give the Chamber a call if they would like more information on that. But we have most of our volunteer positions filled and our safety plan is rock solid. It’s going to be an awesome race. We’ve probably done a little bit of overkill with our safety plan, but I would rather they have nothing to do than be underprepared.”

The marathon begins in Beaver Creek Park and will end on the MSU-Northern campus. A post-race celebration will take place in the parking lot by Tilleman Field from 11 AM-4 PM.

“We’ll have food and drinks and music and lots of games and some bouncy houses. It’s going to be pretty fun.”

The in-person race remains restricted to Montana residents only. The sign-up window remains open.

Along with the full marathon, there will also be a half marathon, a 5k, and a one mile run. There will also be a pub crawl the night before the race.

Those competing virtually can send in their info any time between now and the race on June 5th.
