(Havre) The Beaver Creek Park Board’s Grazing Committee met on August 1st.
The Committee addressed concerns about Lupine in the pastures in the park. The committee concluded it may be an issue for pregnant cows as too much consumption of the species of plant can cause “crooked calf syndrome”, a pattern of skeletal malformations in newborn calves.
A new form of fee was proposed for haying when considering calf and mother pairs, where each mother cow would cost 30 percent more to account for the feed that it’s eventual calf would consume. Nothing has been finalized from this plan as of yet.
Allotments were also decided this meeting, and the grazing committee approved a motion that set each allotment equal to the average of the last three years usage for each producer.
