WASHINGTON, D.C. (NMB) – A bipartisan bill to help protect Montanans from illegal robocalls, which was co-sponsored by both Senators Jon Tester and Steve Daines, has now been signed into law.
President Donald Trump signed the TRACED Act into law late Monday.
Daines says the bill will extend the time frame in which the Federal Communications Commission can catch and punish companies or individuals that intentionally break telemarketing restrictions.
It will also require voice service providers to implement an authentication framework to verify that incoming calls are legitimate before they reach consumers’ phones, and will direct the FCC to craft a plan to block calls that cannot be authenticated through that framework.
