(Washington) – The Internal Revenue Service is giving a temporary break to businesses and individuals dealing with certain diesel fuel taxes. This week, the IRS announced it is pausing paperwork, recordkeeping, and reporting rules for taxes on dyed diesel fuel. This relief applies to fuel used between October 1st and December 31st of this year.
Officials say the break is meant to ease compliance burdens while the government figures out simpler ways to manage the process in the future. The IRS also noted it is aware that red dye can leave a residue in fuel tanks long after the relief period ends, and it plans to issue guidance later on a grace period to handle that issue.
This temporary pass only applies to this specific fuel tax, meaning all other regular tax filing and recordkeeping requirements remain in full effect.
