HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The bitter cold that made it’s way to the Hi-Line over the holiday weekend is expected to continue over the next several days, with temperatures likely to remain below zero through Wednesday and wind chills projected to be as low as 50 below zero.
In Fort Belknap, they have opened two emergency warming shelters: the Chief Nosey Gym in Lodgepole and the Kills At Night Center in Hays. For more information on the Lodgepole shelter, contact Gail Main at 673-3217. For more information on the Hays shelter, call Maggie Werk at 301-4583.
In light of the cold weather, the Havre Public Works Department suggests people leave a small stream of water from an open faucet running at all times to prevent service lines from freezing up. It is also suggested that the main sewer vent pipe outlet, located on the roof of the a house, be checked to insure that it is free of accumulations of ice and snow caused by freezing temperatures.
Also due to the weather, some Cape Air flights in and out of Havre have had to be canceled, so customers with flights booked this week should check their status before heading to the airport.
