BLM members and operators recognized for actions in 2023 dam incident.

(Blaine County) The Bureau of Land Management Director for the Montana and Dakotas region recently presented a team in Blaine County with the State Directors Award for Safety for their actions during a 2023 dam incident.

The dam, which was located near Harlem, had the potential to fail during an unusually high-flow from spring runoff during the spring of 2023. The Havre and Malta field offices both worked together to keep the water level from to safe elevation, and were aided by Frank Baldik, a grazing permit operator, who kept a high-volume water pump fueled which aided the lowering of the water level.

As a result of their actions, Baldik, Abby Hall, Ben HIleman, Ken Koncilya, Jeremy McKellar, Craig Miller, Scott Meneely, and Clint Crowley all received this award and recognition.
