The Havre Softball Team had a busy weekend playing in two games both Friday and Saturday. The Blue Ponies entered Friday’s games with a (14-2) record before splitting the match ups with a (5-3) loss vs Frenchtown and an (8-2) win over Ronan.
In the (5-3) loss to Frenchtown, the game was tied (0-0) until Havre broke the offensive drought scoring one run in the 3rd inning. The Blue Ponies were up (3-1) going into the top of the 5th inning when Carah Evans of Frenchtown hit a 3-run homerun to take the lead (4-3). Frenchtown held Havre scoreless after taking the lead and ended the game with a (5-3) victory.
The Blue Ponies bounced back from the loss with a decisive (8-2) victory over Ronan in game number two on the day. The Blue Ponies opened the game scoring three runs in the 1st inning and never looked back. Havre went on to score 5 more runs throughout the game, and pitcher Elle Verploegen protected the lead surrendering only two runs with three strikeouts over six innings.
Saturday the Blue Ponies defeated Libby (13-5) in their first game of the day. Both teams’ offenses started the game off hot, scoring four runs each in the first inning. The teams continued to go blow for blow with Libby scoring one run in the 2nd inning only for Havre’s Avery Carlson to hit a homerun and tie it up in the same inning. The Blue Ponies scored one run in the 3rd to take a one score lead heading into the 4th, before the Havre offense exploded for a seven-run inning to take a (13-5) lead and final score. Havre scattered sixteen hits, including two homeruns on the day.
In the final game Havre fell to Polson (12-9). Stay tuned for more updates.
The Blue Ponies finish the regular season with a (16-4) record and prepare for the Eastern “A” Softball Divisional Round set to begin Friday May 19th.
