The Blue Pony track and field teams were tops in their home meet over the weekend. New Media Broadcasters asked head coach Kari Filius what she took away from both JV and varsity’s performances in Havre this past Saturday.
“We’re just excited to see everybody PRing, getting their best times and distances so early,” Filius said. “We’re trying to do what we did last year.”
“We had a total of 47 PRs on the team,” Filius continued. “And that’s JV and varsity. So even our younger kids are starting to compete and see hard work (that) they can get better. Each meet, that’s what their goal is.”
“It was nice to see those personal bests because that’s what we work for every week,” Filius said.
The Billings Invite is up next for Havre’s track and field bunch. Filius said this showcase will feature the most populated region of the state with its athletes as well as a lot of previews on divisional and state matchups.
“It’s going to be a really competitive meet because there’s five or six ‘AA’ teams and then all of Eastern ‘A’ and three or four Wyoming schools,” Filius said.
“I’m just looking for those kids to enjoy, have fun competing with higher levels (of competition),” Filius continued. “And we’re there, too. We have a lot of kids that are right up there at the top.”
“It’ll be nice to see what we can do when we’re pushed just a little bit more,” Filius said.
