The United States Department of Agriculture is updating its farm loan policies and technology to improve credit access for farmers and ranchers. The agency is permanently implementing the Application Fast Track process nationwide following a pilot program that reduced direct loan processing times by an average of eight days for low-risk applicants.
According to the USDA, the changes aim to streamline operations and reduce administrative burdens during a period of high demand for farm loans. Additionally, financial institutions in the Preferred Lender Program will receive delegated authority to certify that applicants meet creditworthiness and collateral requirements. This change reduces documentation and expedites the guaranteed loan process.
The USDA is also transitioning from a paper-based system to a modernized electronic interface for guaranteed loans, which will allow applications and supporting documents to be submitted digitally.
